Making A Miniature Anvil

This is a long enough episode in the video so that it has been divided into three segments for better electronic storage. You can view them sequentially. They show the amazing skill of Curt with assist by Clifton. Note how hand tools are used with highly radiused flat dies.

Anvil Video Segment 1

The anvil begins with a simple block of steel. The base is made first by blocking and use of round fullers.

Anvil Video Segment 2

The basic shape of the top of the anvil is produced in this segment. The various hand tools are interesting, but also notice that sustained hammering isn't done. Just a few measured blows are done before rotating the work or changing the tool.

Here the anvil is completed. It is a great showing of hammering finesse.
